The Life of Riley

“ Be happy with what you got” is the theme that Muritai School did for there production, based on the book “ The Short and Incredibly Happy Life of Riley” by Colin Thompson. Muritai School really brought the book to life. You don’t know what to expect when you see such a big primary school taking such a big task. The show was fantastic.

Having Mr Chadwick dancing in front of us was already a crazy and a funny experience, but then having a clash of Beyonce and Michael jackson thriller was hilarious. I was so excited.

The story was perfect for a school, learning to be happy with what you got is a great story line. It is about a guy called Norman who is sad and wants more in life and then he meets Colin who tells him about Riley who is the happiest person in the world. The book tells an adventure of Norman who learns to be happy with a lot less.

I was nervous I knew I would only be on for about 5 minutes, but I was still scared that I was going to muck up, go to fast, go to slow, be I was nervous I knew I would only be on for about 5 minutes, but I was still scared that I was going to muck up, go to fast, go to slow, be in the wrong place. I’d done a performance before but this was totally different because the people on the opposite side of those dark green curtains were people I knew.

As the year seven and eights performed our last dance. I was buzzing seeing faces I knew beaming and clapping louder than ever. I couldn't see why i had been so nervous, I was having the time of my life.

Memories

Wild waves wash with wisdom,
Sand swishing swaying in silence,
The tide tumbling to my toes,
Gazing goes,
And Autumn appears,
Searching for summer,
I reappear,

Then I noticed,
In the sand,
My florescent pink board,
Outdoing the silky golden sand,

Clutching my board,
I float in the rushing water,
Thinking of my younger sister,

Explanation Term 2

Term two, well, it has sure been busy, but we are up to date. In the past few weeks we have been loaded high with cross-country, evaluation writing, portfolios, carter observatory visit and the big topic of the term, was science fairs, I did my science fair on ‘How does rainfall effect streams’ I am really happy because I got chosen in the top 20 in the whole 7 and 8 side and so did my sister.

It is halfway through the term and I have participated and contributed in lots of activities. The biggest sport event for me was running in the cross-country. I am really proud of my placing because I came second in the year seven girls race. I then went to the Inter zone and came 14th. I could not stop beaming that day, I think I still am.

Explanation writing has been an interesting way of writing and I am really pleased with all three writing samples I have produced. I think that my Matariki explanation was my best produced work out of all three samples of work.

Next term I aim to get more involved in class discussion and improve on my writing and grammar. I am also aiming to work hard on all areas especially my maths.

To sum up this term is way to hard but there is one word that finishes it off it is fantastic this term was amazing, I can not wait till next term but I still want my holiday.

Conclusion

To sum up the Science project I think that I did very well and I am interested that my hypothesis worked out well. My hypothesis worked because I thought that the volume of water in the stream will relate to the volume of rainfall and that the width and depth of rainfall will increase after rain. I also so found some very interesting facts on stream if you look here. I found:

· That rainfall effects the depth and width of streams; in other words the volume of water in the stream increases after rain.
· Sometimes falling leaves and branches block the stream further up hill and that prevents the stream from having a clear flow.
· Heavy rain washes away the leaves and branches and clears the stream but if the storm water pipes are blocked the stream floods and goes into the neighbours backyards and wild life in the stream can get stranded and a property could get damaged.

It was interesting founding about so many lost secrets about some of the Eastbourne streams such as there use to be trout and fish about 4 inches long and you could fish for them, but further up stream some painters cleaned there brushes and that ended up poisoning the trout and fish. I hope people will learn from my Science project and protect our Eastbourne streams.
